Getting married in the USVI is very easy with very little paper. True Love Weddings packages include: 

Filing your completed marriage application with the Superior Court before and after the wedding! You are required to go to the court to be sworn in and to pick up your license. Marriage applications must be filed at least eight (8) days prior to your the marriage.


Two (2) certified copies of your marriage license (mailed to your home address in 3 weeks).

In accordance with 16 V.I. Code Ann. § 31, marriage is declared to be a civil contract which may be entered into between a male and a female in accordance with law. Marriage Information Fact Sheet; Applications for Marriage License and License and Certificate of Marriage are available in the Family Division of the Clerk’s Office. Pursuant to 16 V.I. Code Ann. § 35, before a marriage license can be 
issued, applicants are required to personally appear before the Clerk of the Court, or her designee, to be examined under oath as to the information provided in the Application for License.


Please note that a government issued form of identification is required.


There is a One Hundred Dollar ($100.00) non-refundable application fee, which 
must be paid when the application is filed. There is a One Hundred Dollar ($100.00) marriage license fee, which must be paid when the marriage license is picked up.

All fees are to be paid by certified check, money order, or cash when paying in person.


Applicants residing off-island and requesting information on getting married in the Virgin Islands should provide the Family Division with a current mailing address and telephone number.  A marriage packet to include a marriage information fact sheet, marriage application, and a license and certificate of marriage will be forwarded to you.  Applicants traveling to the territory to be married should submit a letter detailing the date of visit, the length of stay and the preferred ceremony date if desirous of having the marriage performed by a judge.


There are no requirements for physical examination or blood tests.


Marriage Licenses


All marriage licenses must be typed and completed in their entirety. In accordance with 16 V.I. Code Ann. § 35 (a) the following information with respect to each applicant is required:


Full name, age at last birthday

Social security number

Date of birth

Nationality, Usual Residence

Name of Parents (present/maiden parents' place of birth)

Previous Marital Status (widowed, divorced, marriage annulled)


SPECIAL NOTE: Provide Court Certified Copies of a Divorce or Death Certificate (if applicable).  Do not send in the originals as the documents are not returned to you. Court certified copy means that a notarized seal from the courthouse that issued the divorce is on the last page of the Divorce Decree.  Call the lawyer that assisted with the divorce or the Courthouse that issued the Decree to get your court certified copy.


Any application that is not typed will be returned to the applicants.  Please note if applicants have been divorced, a certified copy of the divorce decree must be filed along with the application.  If an applicant is a widow or widower, a certified copy of their spouse’s Death Certificate is required to be filed along with the application.


Please do not have applications notarized prior to appearing before the Court. Applicants must personally appear before the Clerk to have the application notarized.


Posting of Applications


Marriage applications are posted for public examination in the Clerk’s Office for a period of eight (8) days in accordance with 16 V.I. Code Ann. § 37.  The marriage license fee is One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) and must be paid when the marriage license is picked up.


Examination of Applicants for Marriage license


Pursuant 16 V.I. Code Ann. § 35(a), before the issuance of any license to solemnize a marriage, the applicants are required to personally appear before the Clerk of the Court, or her designee, to be examined under oath as to the information provided in the Application for Marriage License. Please note that some form of identification is required.
